General Questions

How long can I stay at a ranch?

Most experiences range from 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the ranch and your availability.

Do I need previous experience with animals?

Not always! Many ranches welcome beginners with a willingness to learn. Each ranch profile clearly indicates required experience levels.

What's included in my stay?

In exchange for your help (typically 4-5 hours daily, 5 days a week), you'll receive accommodation, meals, and full immersion in ranch life.

Is Ranch Hoppers only for young people?

Not at all ! While our core audience is 18-30, we welcome passionate adventurers of all ages seeking authentic experiences.

How are ranches selected?

Ranches first apply to join our platform, then undergo thorough verification by our team. We personally review living conditions, work expectations, and host commitment before approving any listing. Want to join us as a host ? Apply here

How much does it cost?

Ranch experiences are free for hosts and require a membership fee for volunteers. This supports our personalized matching service and ongoing support throughout your journey.

Hosts

What kind of help can I expect?

Volunteers can assist with various tasks – from animal care and barn maintenance to garden work and household chores. You'll specify what help you need in your profile.

Do I need to provide training?

Yes! Part of the exchange is teaching volunteers about ranch life. While some may arrive with experience, be prepared to provide guidance and instruction.

What if a volunteer isn't a good fit?

We carefully screen volunteers, but if issues arise, our support team is available to help. In serious cases, we can assist with finding a replacement or easing the leave of the volunteer.

Am I required to have horses?

While our platform began with a focus on horse ranches, we welcome a variety of animal-focused properties. The key is offering an authentic rural lifestyle experience.

Can I host multiple volunteers at once?

Absolutely! But keep in mind that many hosts find that having 2-3 volunteers creates an ideal positive dynamic. But you can specify how many volunteers you can accommodate.

Volunteers

What does a typical day look like as a volunteer?

Volunteers usually help for around 4–5 hours a day, with tasks varying by host type. This can include animal care, feeding, property maintenance, gardening, or general ranch support. The rest of the day is yours to relax, explore the area, or connect with other volunteers and hosts.

Do I need prior ranch or farm experience?

No prior experience is required for most ranches. Hosts are usually happy to teach motivated volunteers who are willing to learn and help out. Any specific skill or experience requirements will be clearly listed on the ranch profile before you apply.

Is it safe to volunteer, and what support is available if something goes wrong?

Your safety matters. All ranches are reviewed before being listed, and you'll have direct communication with your host before arriving. If any issues come up during your stay, the Ranch Hoppers team is available to support you and help resolve problems.

What's included and what do I need to pay for myself?

In most placements, accommodation and meals are provided in exchange for your help. Volunteers are typically responsible for travel costs to and from the ranch, personal expenses, and any required visas or insurance.

Can I only message hosts after becoming a member?

Yes! Once you become a Ranch Hoppers member, you can message hosts directly, ask questions, apply for volunteer opportunities, and confirm your stay.
